Cake Care & Storage Instruction

Cake Care Guide
Thank you for ordering from Kobo BakeHouse. Your cake has been freshly made with care, so please follow
the guidance below to keep it looking and tasting its best.

Transporting Your Cake
Please keep your cake flat and level at all times.
Place the cake in the footwell or boot of the car, not on a seat, as seats are usually slanted and can cause
the cake to slide or lean. Keep the car cool and avoid placing the cake in direct sunlight. In warm weather, use air conditioning where possible.
Hold the cake box from the bottom with both hands. Do not carry the box from the sides only, especially for
tall or tiered cakes
.

General Storage
Cakes should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, steam, and strong smells.
Do not leave your cake near radiators, ovens, sunny windows, or in a hot car.
For best flavour and texture, most cakes should be brought to room temperature before serving.
Buttercream Cakes
Buttercream cakes are best stored in the fridge, especially during warm weather or if the cake is tall and heavily
decorated, or filled with soft fillings.
Storage: Refrigerate until 1–2 hours before serving.

Serving: Allow the cake to come to room temperature before cutting so the sponge and buttercream soften.
Smaller cakes may only need around 1 hour at room temperature. Larger or taller cakes may need 2–3
hours, depending on room temperature.

Ganache Cakes
Ganache cakes are usually more stable than buttercream cakes but should still be kept cool.
Storage: Store in the fridge or a cool room.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 1–2 hours before serving.
Chocolate ganache can become firm when chilled, so allowing the cake to soften before serving will give the
best texture.
Fresh Cream, Cream Cheese, Mousse, or Mascarpone Cakes
These cakes must be kept refrigerated at all times because they contain perishable fillings or frosting.

Storage: Keep refrigerated until shortly before serving.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 20–40 minutes before serving.
Do not leave these cakes at room temperature for long periods, especially in warm weather.

Fondant-Covered Cakes
Fondant cakes should be stored in a cool, dry room, not in the fridge unless advised.
Refrigeration can sometimes cause condensation on fondant, making the surface sticky or shiny.
Storage: Keep in the box, away from sunlight, heat, and humidity.
Serving: Keep at room temperature and cut when ready.
If your cake contains perishable fillings, follow the specific storage advice given with your order.

Cakes with Different Sizes and Heights
4-inch and 5-inch Cakes

These smaller cakes are easier to store and serve.
Storage: Keep refrigerated if buttercream, ganache, cream cheese, fresh cream, or mousse-based.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 45 minutes to 1 hour before serving.
6-inch Cakes
A 6-inch cake is ideal for small gatherings and should be kept stable and cool.
Storage: Refrigerate if buttercream, ganache, or perishable filling is used.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 1–2 hours before serving.

8-inch Cakes
Larger cakes hold more weight and need extra care when moving.
Storage: Keep refrigerated where possible, especially if tall or filled with soft fillings.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 2 hours before serving.
10-inch Cakes and Larger
Large cakes are heavier and more sensitive to movement and heat.
Storage: Refrigerate or keep in a very cool room.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 2–3 hours before serving, depending on the frosting and room temperature.
Always lift large cakes from the bottom and keep them level.

Tall Cakes
Tall cakes are more delicate than standard-height cakes because they have more layers and more height.
They may contain internal supports, dowels, or boards.
Storage: Keep refrigerated until closer to serving.
Serving: Remove from the fridge around 1.5–3 hours before serving, depending on the cake size and
room temperature.
When cutting a tall cake, do not cut it like a standard short cake. Slice carefully in sections for neat, even
portions.

Tiered Cakes
Tiered cakes must be handled with extra care.
Keep the cake level and avoid moving it unnecessarily once it has been set up.
Storage: Keep in a cool, dry environment.
Serving: Follow the guidance based on the frosting and filling used.
Tiered cakes may contain dowels, boards, or support structures. Please remove these carefully while cutting
and serving.

Cakes with Fresh Fruit, Flowers, or Delicate Decorations
Cakes decorated with fresh fruit, fresh flowers, macarons, chocolate sails, wafer paper, or delicate toppers
should be handled gently.
Fresh fruit and flowers can be affected by heat and moisture.

Storage: Keep refrigerated if the cake has fresh fruit, cream, cream cheese, or mousse.
Serving: Remove shortly before serving.
Some decorations may soften in the fridge or in humid conditions. Keep the cake away from steam and
moisture.

How Long Will My Cake Last?
For best taste and freshness, we recommend enjoying your cake within 2–3 days of collection or delivery.
Cakes with fresh cream, mousse, mascarpone, cream cheese, or fresh fruit are best enjoyed within 1–2
days.
Always keep leftover cake covered or stored in an airtight container.

Cutting and Serving
Use a sharp knife for clean slices.
For neat cuts, warm the knife under hot water, wipe it dry, then slice. Wipe the knife between cuts.
Serve the cake at room temperature for the best flavour unless it contains fresh cream, mousse,
mascarpone, or other chilled fillings.

Leftovers
Wrap leftover cake tightly in cling film or place it in an airtight container.
Store leftovers in the fridge and consume within 2–3 days.
For longer storage, some sponge cakes can be frozen. Wrap slices tightly and freeze for up to 1 month.
Defrost in the fridge overnight, then bring to room temperature before eating.
Do not freeze cakes with fresh fruit, fresh cream, mousse, or delicate decorations unless advised.

Important Reminder
Once the cake has been collected or delivered, it is the customer’s responsibility to store and transport it
safely.
Please keep your cake cool, level, and protected until serving.

Made with love,
